Reformation Heritage Baptist Church is a confessional Baptist church in Trussville, Alabama. The Bible is the highest and final authority for our faith and practice, and we affirm the Second London Baptist Confession (1677/1689) as the best expression of what Scripture teaches.
Convictionally Reformational
By including “Reformation” in our church name, we aim to affirm the historic truths that mark the Protestant Reformed faith. These have often been summarized in the Five Solas.
Sola Gratia (By Grace Alone) – Salvation is all of grace. God is sovereign in his dispensing of saving grace to undeserving sinners like us. None of our works can merit any of the saving benefits of God.
Sola Fide (Through Faith Alone) – Salvation is by faith alone. Saving faith is a gift from God whereby we receive and rest in Christ’s righteousness alone for justification. Then faith calls us to obey all His holy will in cheerful and willing obedience to His commands.
Solus Christus (In Christ Alone) – Salvation is found in Christ alone. There is no other hope or way of salvation. Christ Jesus our Lord lived a life of perfect obedience, and died a sacrificial death for our sins, so that we might be reconciled to God.
Sola Scriptura (By Scripture Alone) – The Bible is the inspired Word of God, and reveals to us the way of salvation in Christ. In it we have a perfect record of God’s work of redemption and a roadmap for how to live for him.
Soli Deo Gloria (To the Glory of God Alone) – All of history, including the details of our lives, works for the ultimate glory of our trine God-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God has so ordered everything so that He might be loved and worshipped, and it’s our duty and delight to live and worship Him to that end.
Convictionally Relational
Our church was planted by Grace Heritage Church in Auburn, Alabama. By including “Heritage” in our name, we aim to show our love and partnership with these dear saints. We aren’t reinventing the wheel, but are keeping in step with a heritage of faithful Christians who have gone before us. In this way, we associate and fellowship with other churches of like faith and practice.
Convictionally Baptist
RHBC is unapologetically Baptist. As the Reformation was a retrieval of a biblical view of salvation, we believe the Baptists continued that effort in retrieving a biblical view of the church. For this reason, we practice believer’s baptism by immersion with an elder-led, congregationally-governed polity. We affirm the covenant theology that undergirds these convictions and cherish the riches of Baptist history. Even so, we embrace those from other denominations with different convictions as our brothers and sisters in Christ.
